Frequently asked questions

What is Esmeringle (also called Esmeringhoy)?

Esmeringle, also known as Esmeringhoy, is a free anonymous chat website where you are paired with a random stranger for a one-to-one text conversation. No account is needed. It is made with Filipino users in mind, but anyone aged 18 or older can use it.

What does "Esmeringling" mean?

Esmeringling is what we call chatting on Esmeringle: tap "Start Esmeringling", get matched with a stranger, and start a kwentuhan. Tap Next to meet someone else or Stop to leave.

How does anonymous chat work here?

You do not sign up or upload photos. You can pick a nickname or get a random one such as Stranger_1234. Your messages are passed live between you and your match and are not saved to a database. Anonymous does not mean untraceable, so never share personal details such as your address, school or passwords.

Is Esmeringle an alternative to Omegle, OmeTV or other random chat sites?

It works in a similar way: a free random chat to talk to strangers online, but text only, with no video or audio. Esmeringle is independent and is not affiliated with Omegle, OmeTV or any other service. We mention them only so you know what kind of site this is.

Is this a site for bembang or hookups?

No. Some people search with slang terms like "bembang", but Esmeringle is a general random chat for making conversation with new people. It is not a dating, escort or adult-content service. Sexual content involving minors, harassment, threats, and solicitation are never allowed, and we act on abuse.

Can I talk to strangers about specific topics or from my area?

Yes. Before you start you can type up to 3 topics of your own (up to 14 characters each, such as gaming, kpop or basketball) and where you are from, such as Northern, Central or Southern Luzon, Western, Central or Eastern Visayas, or a part of Mindanao. We first look for someone with the same interests and widen the search after about 10 seconds so you are not left waiting. Gender and location are self-declared and not verified.

What can I do during a chat?

Send text and emoji, reply to a specific message, react to messages, send GIFs (when enabled) and turn sounds on or off. Use Next to find someone new, Stop to leave, or the "⋯" menu to block.

Is there a group chat?

Yes. Switch to "Group chat" on the home page to join a live channel or create your own. Channels are temporary and public: they disappear as soon as everyone leaves, and hold up to 20 people.

Why was my message blocked?

Links, web addresses and email addresses are blocked in every chat to keep people safe from scams and spam, including links written with spaces or "dot com". We also show a one-time reminder if a message has sexual or offensive words, or mentions social media accounts, because sharing personal information with strangers is risky.

How do I stay safe?

Do not share personal information, do not click suspicious links, and leave any chat that makes you uncomfortable. You can block anyone. Blocks work on your device, so a person who clears their browser data may return under a new identity. See the Safety page for more.

Who can use Esmeringle?

Only people aged 18 and older. A checkbox cannot prove age, so we rely on automatic safeguards and moderation to act on anyone who breaks this rule.

Is it free? Do I need an app?

It is free, there are no accounts, and it runs in your phone or computer browser. Nothing to download.
